New Fortnite Mechanic Could Speed Up Landings

Fortnite Reveals Glider Cut Feature That Could Speed Up Landings

After years of player requests, Fortnite may soon introduce a long-awaited mechanic: Glider Releasing. According to a leak from prominent source Wenso, this feature would let players cut their glider early during descent, allowing them to land much faster than the game currently allows.

It’s a surprising omission in a game that’s otherwise rich in mobility mechanics. For years, players have been locked into glider mode until just before hitting the ground, which prevents fall damage but also slows down early-game engagement significantly. If the leak is accurate, Glider Releasing could dramatically speed up landings—especially in competitive matches.

But with new freedom comes new concerns. Some players have already pointed out that this feature could be easily exploited—for example, by diving directly into bodies of water to avoid fall damage and gain an immediate advantage. This could allow early landers to scoop up loot and dominate the opening seconds of a match.

To keep things balanced, Epic Games might need to rethink map design. One option is to ensure only shallow water is placed near high-priority landing zones, forcing players to travel farther before accessing weapons and resources. Another possibility is shifting toward a micro-scaled map design, where descent and spacing are more carefully controlled to prevent unfair advantages from early water landings. Or neither of them. HORDE MODE!!

While Glider Releasing could bring a much-needed refresh to Fortnite’s drop phase, it’ll be interesting to see how Epic implements it without breaking the balance of the early game.
