Devolver Digital will publish Shroom and Gloom, a new first-person roguelike deckbuilder from Team Lazerbeam, arriving on PC via Steam in 2025. A free demo is already available and offers a strong glimpse into this creatively dark dungeon crawler.

Set in a hand-drawn world of fungus-infested tunnels, players will use two separate decks: one for combat and another for exploration. This dual-deck system enhances strategy, encouraging players to upgrade basic cards into powerful attacks and repurpose rare cards into unique weapons. The game’s combat blends tactical decision-making with moments of absurdity and charm. In battleA standout feature is the cooking mechanic—defeated enemies can be turned into health-restoring meals or stat-boosting soups. The demo includes 26 handcrafted levels filled with spore-spewing foes and biome bosses that require sharp deck manipulation.

The team behind the game, known for titles like Teenage Blob and Wrestling With Emotions, describes Shroom and Gloom as their most ambitious project. Their signature offbeat humor and stylistic presentation are clearly intact, yet this title shows a leap in mechanical complexity and long-term replay value.Using a card to advanceAs indie roguelikes become increasingly competitive, Shroom and Gloom positions itself with a distinct visual identity, layered deckbuilding, and a strange but effective blend of dungeon survival and culinary experimentation. It’s one of the more promising underground titles hitting Steam in the coming year.
