With Life-Size Pokémon Skeletons
Pokemon announced Pokemon Fossil Museum coming to USA. The Pokémon Fossil Museum, a traveling exhibit featuring life-size Pokémon skeleton replicas and real-world fossil comparisons, is officially heading outside of Japan for the first time — and it’s coming to Chicago.
The exhibit will open at the Field Museum in Illinois on May 22, 2026, giving fans a full year to plan their trip. The experience blends paleontology with Pokémon, showcasing side-by-side displays of real fossils and their Pokémon counterparts — like Tyrantrum vs. T. rex and Archeops vs. Archaeopteryx.
Pokémon + Paleontology
Originally launched in Japan in 2021, the Pokémon Fossil Museum has been rotating across various science museums, each version featuring slightly different setups and content. Visitors get to compare skeletal structures of Pokémon with actual prehistoric creatures — a rare chance to see the real-world inspirations behind fan-favorite designs.
Expect a mix of science, nostalgia, and interactive fun, making this exhibit a must-see for both Pokémon fans and fossil nerds.
Will There Be Exclusive Merch?
Japan’s versions featured limited merchandise tied to each venue, and while there’s no confirmation yet for the Chicago stop, it’s likely The Pokémon Company will bring some localized exclusives to the U.S. version.
No end date has been announced yet, but in Japan, the exhibit typically stays for 1 to 4 months per location.
