Nintendo and Samsung Team Up for Switch 2 Production

OLED Upgrade May Follow Initial LCD Launch

According to recent reports, Nintendo is working with Samsung to produce custom chips for the upcoming Switch 2, with an ambitious goal of shipping 20 million units by March 2026. The collaboration highlights Nintendo’s confidence in Switch 2’s market potential and Samsung’s capacity for large-scale tech manufacturing.

While the base model is expected to feature an LCD screen, Samsung is reportedly lobbying for a mid-cycle OLED version. This wouldn’t be surprising—OLED displays have become a consumer favorite thanks to their vibrant color range and deep contrast. A premium model could easily appeal to players looking for a richer visual experience, just as the Switch OLED did in its time.

Nintendo Switch 2 modesNintendo’s approach aligns with a broader industry trend: staggered hardware upgrades that expand console lifespans. Rather than reinvent the wheel, the company appears to be doubling down on proven partnerships and component strategies to stay ahead of hardware expectations.

Given the strong demand for portable consoles and the growing expectation for premium display options, this partnership feels strategic. If OLED becomes part of the plan, Nintendo may succeed in not just meeting demand—but shaping what players expect from next-gen hybrid gaming.
