Square Enix has officially confirmed that the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remakes will launch on October 30, 2025. The release will follow shortly after Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, creating a powerful trilogy experience for both longtime fans and newcomers.
Back to Where It All Began:
Originally released in the 1980s for the Famicom (NES), Dragon Quest laid the foundation for turn-based RPGs as we know them. The first game introduced players to the kingdom of Alefgard, where a lone hero sets out to rescue Princess Gwaelin and defeat the dreaded Dragonlord. Its sequel, Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, expanded the scope with a full party system, larger world, and deeper story.

These games may be simple by today’s standards, but they remain essential chapters in JRPG history. And now, they’re getting a fresh coat of HD-2D paint.
With these remakes, Square Enix isn’t just revisiting nostalgia — they’re offering a full-circle moment for fans who began their journeys with Dragon Quest XI and now want to experience how it all started. It’s a rare chance to see a legendary franchise evolve while honoring its roots.

The message is clear: every hero starts from zero. And for Dragon Quest, that origin story is worth telling all over again.
