Persona 4 Remake Waves Build as Yuri Lowenthal Confirms Recast

The tide seems to be turning in favor of a Persona 4 remake, as longtime voice actor Yuri Lowenthal — the original voice behind Yosuke — confirmed he won’t be reprising his role. In a candid BlueSky post, Lowenthal said he asked, “maybe even begged,” but wasn’t brought back for the remake.

While Atlus hasn’t officially announced anything, this unexpected reveal adds weight to the growing swell of rumors. Earlier this year, fans discovered a suspicious domain registration, and several leakers have hinted that a remake has been quietly sailing beneath the surface. Now, a major cast member speaking out has stirred the waters even more.

The reason for the recasting hasn’t been made clear. Lowenthal is a member of SAG-AFTRA, and the union is still in the middle of a strike — one that includes calls for stronger protections against unregulated AI use in the industry. While it’s unconfirmed whether that’s a factor here, it remains part of the backdrop.

After the success of Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the next fan-favorite entry makes sense — and might even follow the same course. P3 Reload was revealed during Xbox’s summer showcase in 2023, so many now expect a similar reveal this summer. All signs point to the remake being real — it’s just a matter of when it docks officially.
