Elden Ring: Nightreign Adds 2-Player Mode in Upcoming Update

Starting July 30, the game’s new Update 1.02 will introduce Duo Expeditions, a fresh mode that allows players to tackle the game’s challenges with just two players instead of three.

Up until now, Nightreign required three-person squads for its main co-op mode, which made it a bit of a commitment—especially for those not keen on matchmaking with strangers or unable to gather a full group regularly. With Duo Expeditions, that barrier is gone, giving more flexibility to enjoy the game solo or with just one close ally.

While FromSoftware hasn’t detailed how balance adjustments will work for two-player squads, the update is expected to scale encounters accordingly. Alongside the new co-op format, Update 1.02 also brings UI enhancements, including improved Relic filtering for easier loadout management.

Duo Expeditions goes live on July 30, and a new trailer showcasing the update is already available. If you’ve been holding off on Nightreign due to co-op limitations, now might be the right time to jump in.
