Electronic Arts has confirmed that Anthem, the ambitious online action-RPG by BioWare, will permanently shut down its servers on January 12, 2026. While the game will remain playable online until then, in-game purchases are no longer available, and Anthem will be removed from the EA Play service starting August 15, 2025.
Launched in 2019 with high hopes, Anthem impressed with its aerial movement system and vibrant visuals but failed to maintain player interest due to repetitive missions and limited endgame content. A proposed overhaul titled Anthem NEXT was scrapped in 2021, leaving fans disappointed.
Once servers go offline, Anthem will no longer be accessible in any form, as the game does not support offline play. For many, this marks the end of a what-if legacy in modern gaming. Anthem serves as a cautionary tale in the live-service era. Its unmatched flight mechanics and stunning visuals promised a revolution, but the lack of meaningful gameplay depth and poor content updates sealed its fate.
