Elden Ring Nightreign’s “Deep of Night” Mode Brings High-Difficulty

FromSoftware is ramping up the challenge in Elden Ring: Nightreign with its biggest update yet—Deep of Night, a new high-difficulty, randomly-seeded Expedition mode launching on September 11, 2025. This new mode is tailor-made for experienced players who’ve already conquered the standard game and are ready for brutal, unpredictable tests.

What Is Deep of Night?

Deep of Night” is a new endless Expedition mode focused on increasingly difficult runs. Here’s what to expect:

  • No Target Control: You cannot choose your final boss (Nightlord). The game randomizes your opponent, forcing players to prepare for every possibility.

  • Exclusive Items: The mode introduces Depth Relics and new weapons with stacked bonuses and debuffs, available only in Deep of Night.

  • Scaling Difficulty: The deeper your run, the harder the enemies get. From Depth 4 onward, it becomes an endless run mode, letting hardcore players grind to their limits.

  • Rating-Based Depth Progression: Your Expedition “depth” will fluctuate based on win/loss outcomes. This affects which tier of rewards and enemies you’ll face.

The goal is to reach Depth 3 or higher to unlock new gear and prestige rewards. FromSoftware encourages players to push to Depth 4 and 5, where difficulty spikes dramatically and run structure becomes open-ended.

This is the studio’s answer to roguelike veterans demanding more than just rotation-based boss hunting. With this update, Nightreign becomes a long-form, repeatable, high-skill PvE gauntlet.

Deep of Night drops on September 11 for PC and consoles.
