Square Enix is officially bringing back one of its most celebrated tactical RPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this September 30, and it’s not just a remaster—it’s a celebration of the original’s legacy, with something for every kind of player.
The enhanced version features updated visuals, a reworked UI, fully voiced dialogue, and even a “Squire” difficulty mode aimed at newcomers. Meanwhile, the classic version keeps the original 1997 look and feel, paired with the War of the Lions script and modern features like auto-save. Both versions aim to honor the past while making space for new players to step into the world of Ivalice.
On the gameplay side, the return of the beloved job system gives players over 20 unique roles to mix and match. From Black Mage to Dragoon, every job brings distinct skills to the battlefield, and your units grow stronger as they unlock and carry over abilities between jobs. Terrain, elevation, and positioning are all key in Tactics’ signature grid-based combat.
And yes, Chocobos are still recruitable—and still adorable.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles arrives September 30, 2025 on PS5 and PS4. Whether you’re returning to a classic or discovering it for the first time, the gates to Ivalice will soon be open.
