First Look: Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Run at 60 FPS on Switch 2

Nintendo has officially offered fans a first look at Pokémon Scarlet and Violet running at a silky-smooth 60 frames per second on the upcoming Switch 2 hardware. The visual upgrade was teased last month when Nintendo announced enhanced performance updates for select titles, and now it’s finally on display through a new video shared on the Nintendo Today! news app.

While the video remains exclusive to the app and cannot be embedded externally, a recording of it has surfaced thanks to popular gaming leaker Wario64 on Bluesky. The footage shows Pokémon Scarlet and Violet performing significantly better than on the original Switch, where the frame rate frequently dropped below 30 FPS during open-world exploration in Paldea. The updated version appears to maintain a steady 60 FPS while also benefiting from a resolution boost up to 4K.

Although the visual style remains unchanged—since resolution and frame rate upgrades do not alter core artistic direction—the overall experience is clearly more fluid and visually refined. Performance issues that plagued the original release seem to be addressed by the extra horsepower of Switch 2, giving fans a better way to experience the world of Paldea.

For those who held off on exploring Pokémon Scarlet and Violet due to performance concerns, the Switch 2 might be the definitive platform. With stable gameplay and enhanced visuals, this update could breathe new life into two of the most ambitious titles in the franchise.
