11 bit studios has officially announced that Frostpunk 2, its city-building survival sequel, will be released on September 18, 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This console release follows a full year after the game’s debut on PC platforms.
Set 30 years after the events of the original title, Frostpunk 2 challenges players to govern New London amid worsening weather and growing societal tensions. As a city leader, players must make tough political and economic decisions while facing internal conflicts between factions and ideological groups.
The console versions have been redesigned with controller-based gameplay in mind. Players can easily switch between regions using bumper buttons and open a dynamic radial menu over resource clusters for efficient management. This UI update aims to deliver an intuitive and rich gameplay experience. Developers also confirmed that this console interface will later be available for PC gamepad users.
The game will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass, allowing subscribers to experience the full game at no extra cost.
Two physical collector’s editions are also being released:
Icebreaker Edition – Includes the physical game disc, a digital novella titled “Warm Flesh,” a pop-up model of New London, and a digital art book.
Whiteout Edition – Includes everything in Icebreaker, plus a multi-layer LED shadow-box display, a Deluxe Edition upgrade (with access to three upcoming DLCs), a metal keychain, postcard set, themed stickers, and a custom embroidered patch.
These editions cater to fans seeking a deeper connection with the game’s lore and aesthetic.
Beyond the main story, Frostpunk 2 offers a “Utopia Builder” sandbox mode and community support via modding tools. The integrated FrostKit editor empowers players to create and share custom scenarios and mechanics.
According to 11 bit studios, post-launch support will include regular free updates and premium content. Two major story DLCs—Spectrum and Aurora—are already confirmed for future release.
