GTA 4 Reportedly Headed to PS5 and Xbox Series in 2025
According to multiple insider reports, Rockstar Games is reportedly developing a next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto IV for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The project, which has allegedly been in development for over a year, is expected to release by the end of 2025.
The leak comes from trusted Rockstar insider Tez2, who also suggests that this version will be more of a performance-enhanced port than a full remaster—implying improved resolution, frame rate, and minor graphical upgrades rather than a full overhaul. This move is seen as a potential strategy to keep the GTA fanbase engaged as they wait for GTA 6, which has reportedly been delayed until 2026.Interestingly, Rockstar’s recent takedown of the “Liberty City Preservation Project” mod has further fueled speculation that the company is preparing an official re-release of GTA 4 for new hardware. It’s also been rumored that Max Payne 3might follow a similar path.
Bringing back GTA 4 makes sense: it remains one of the franchise’s most narratively rich and tonally unique entries. A next-gen version could reintroduce Niko Bellic’s grim journey through Liberty City to a new audience—enhanced by faster load times and visual refinements. While Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the project, the timing feels right. With the long gap between major releases, a strategic return to one of their strongest titles could reignite interest and nostalgia.
