Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – Everything You Need to Know

TT Games is finally back with Batman, and this time they’re going big. Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (Lego Batman Arkham in my headcannon) was revealed at Gamescom. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Lego take on Gotham.

A Definitive Batman Story

Legacy of the Dark Knight isn’t continuing the old Lego Batman storyline. Instead, it’s mixing iconic Batman moments across films, TV, comics, and animation into a single narrative. You’ll catch nods to Burton’s Batman (1989), Nolan’s trilogy, The Batman (2022), and even Under the Red Hood. TT promises more, including the Adam West 1966 show, Batman Returns, and classic comic arcs.

Over 70 Costumes

Customization is huge here. Batman alone has more than 70 costumes you can unlock and wear, pulling designs from across decades of media. Want your Batman to look like Robert Pattinson’s, Christian Bale’s, Adam West’s, or even straight out of the comics? It’s all in. Costumes change appearance but not personality — Batman still has one consistent character across the story.

Arkham-Inspired Combat With Difficulty Options

Combat finally has teeth. Legacy of the Dark Knight borrows Rocksteady’s Arkham-style brawling — strike, counter, dodge, stealth, and gadgets all in play. TT Games added difficulty modes for the first time:

  • Classic: Chill Lego mode with fewer enemies.

  • Caped Crusader: Balanced mix of combat and story.

  • Dark Knight: Harder combat, limited lives, and level resets.

Stealth takedowns, grappling across gargoyles, sneaking through vents, and batarang distractions all make this feel like Lego Arkham.

Playable Characters and Co-Op

The game is fully playable solo or in couch co-op. You can swap between characters on the fly, or play side-by-side with a friend. Confirmed playable characters so far include:

  • Batman (multiple costume variants)

  • Jim Gordon

  • Robin

  • Nightwing

  • Catwoman

TT Games says more Bat-family and villains will be announced closer to release.

Open-World Gotham

The Gotham map is split across four islands, with new areas unlocking as you progress through the story. Grapple boosts, gliding, detective vision (“Detect”), Riddler puzzle boxes, and Wayne Tech caches all return to keep exploration active. The Batmobile is fully playable too, with variants including Pattinson’s muscle car, Nolan’s Tumbler, and the classic 1966 Batmobile.

With Arkham combat, 70+ costumes, full co-op, and a Gotham built for exploration, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight looks like the most ambitious Lego game TT has ever made. The mix of serious Batman tone with Lego’s trademark humor is clicking perfectly so far.

The game launches in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
