We finally got a real look at The Blood of Dawnwalker thanks to a fresh 21-minute gameplay breakdown—and it’s looking like a serious contender in the action-RPG scene. The game follows Coen, a half-human, half-vampire warrior caught between light and shadow in a grim medieval setting called Vale Sangora, somewhere in 14th-century Europe.
What makes this game stand out is how it splits gameplay between day and night. During the day, Coen fights with runic magic and swordplay—he’s more controlled, focused, and tactical. But when night falls, things get wild. He taps into his vampire side with brutal claws, supernatural movement like wall-running, and skills like Shadowstep for silent takedowns or fast-paced battles. It’s like playing two different characters depending on the time of day, and it opens up tons of cool options.
Combat feels heavy and deliberate, almost like For Honor meets The Witcher, where timing, blocking, and smart use of magic (or feeding on enemies) really matter. You also have to manage your hunger for blood—go too long without feeding, and Coen starts to lose control. That can even mess with questlines or change how the story plays out if you slip up and kill the wrong person.
The game’s story is tied to a 30-day/30-night cycle, but time only moves forward when you actually complete quests. That means you’re free to explore the world, but your actions still have long-term consequences. The story revolves around saving Coen’s sister, Lunka, but how you get there—and what kind of person Coen becomes—is entirely up to you.
Visually, it looks fantastic thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The world is full of detailed cities, swamps, forests, ruins—you name it. The developers at Rebel Wolves (made up of ex-Witcher 3 devs) are building this as a narrative sandbox, so decisions you make affect the world, quests, characters, and even the ending.
