Nintendo used today’s Direct presentation to celebrate Super Mario’s 40th anniversary with a series of reveals spanning games, remasters, amiibo, and even a movie. With so much Mario content in the pipeline, here’s a complete breakdown of what was announced.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 Bundle Confirmed
The biggest announcement of the Direct was the reveal of a Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 bundle, launching on October 2, 2025 for Nintendo Switch.
Both games have been updated with improved resolution, an in-game Storybook mode, and a music player so fans can replay their favorite tracks. For Switch 2 owners, Nintendo confirmed a free 4K update will be available, making it the definitive way to revisit these classics.
To complement the release, Nintendo also revealed new Super Mario Galaxy–themed amiibo. One shows Mario and Luma shooting through space, while another highlights Rosalina reading to Luma.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Nintendo isn’t stopping at games. A sequel to the 2023 animated blockbuster has officially been titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It will hit theaters worldwide on April 3, 2026.
The returning voice cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser. This sequel shifts focus from Mushroom Kingdom antics to cosmic-scale adventure, bringing Galaxy’s unique themes to the big screen for the first time.
Mario Tennis Fever Heads to Switch 2
The next big Mario sports title, Mario Tennis Fever, arrives on February 12, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
This entry boasts the largest roster in series history with 38 playable characters. New mechanics like Fever Rackets let players unleash unique special shots tied to each racket, creating more strategy in both casual and competitive play.
Adventure Mode makes a return, with a story that casts the characters as their baby forms relearning the game through puzzles, bosses, and special challenges. Standard modes such as Tournaments and Trial Tower are also included, aiming to make this the most complete Mario Tennis yet.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park
A Switch 2 Edition is planned for 2026, and this will not just be a straight port. Instead, it brings new multiplayer content and additional areas designed for the improved hardware.
The highlight is Bellabel Park, a brand-new world with attractions that change depending on how players interact with each stage. In co-op, players can trigger joint actions to alter the environment, such as growing giant plants or unlocking hidden carnival rides that act as secret levels.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a brand-new Yoshi adventure, is in development for Spring 2026.
This game takes a different approach from previous Yoshi entries. Instead of purely platforming, the adventure focuses on story progression tied to a magical book that rewrites levels as you play. Each chapter introduces new mechanics—platforms may vanish, enemies can swap behaviors, and even Yoshi’s abilities shift depending on the “pages” collected.
Nintendo Museum Celebrates Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary
To mark the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto is rolling out limited-time promotions for visitors.
Special Play Ticket Design
Starting September 13, 2025, museum tickets will feature a Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary design, available for about a year. Visitors can choose between this commemorative design or their personalized Mii ticket when reserving online. By default, the Mario anniversary ticket will be issued unless changed manually.
Limited-Time Lighting Display
From December 3, 2025, to April 27, 2026, the museum will feature a special Mario-themed lighting display each evening from 4 PM until closing. At the Warp Pipe photo spot, fans can also snap pictures with a 40th Anniversary logo installation, making it a highlight for collectors and photographers alike.
Nintendo has not yet announced when the anniversary ticket design will end, but both the design and the lighting event ensure that Mario’s 40th year will be celebrated in true Nintendo style.
