Nintendo Makes Miis Gender Neutral

In a groundbreaking move that has philosophers, marketers, and confused grandparents talking, Nintendo has announced that Mii characters on the Switch 2 are now officially gender-neutral. Yes, that means your stretchy-faced avatar is no longer forced to choose between “boy” and “girl” while trying to make a vaguely human version of yourself.

Instead, users now select a “style,” which looks suspiciously like the old “male” and “female” models, only with the labels removed—because progress means subtle checkbox rebranding. Nintendo has reportedly spent nearly 37 minutes rewriting this part of Mii Maker, thereby striking a decisive blow in the ongoing war against binary character selection.

Marketing teams celebrated the move with a PowerPoint deck titled “Diversity: Now With Less Coding!” Meanwhile, players everywhere rejoiced as they finally gained the freedom to create a Mii that looks exactly like their old Mii, but this time with extra validation.

When asked for comment, a Nintendo rep said, “We believe this makes our games more inclusive, and also makes for a great bullet point on the back of the box.”

Fans are already speculating what’s next: Non-binary Goombas? Toads with pronoun options? Or maybe a Mario Kart update that lets your kart identify as a unicycle.

In the end, it’s still the same plastic-smile Mii staring soullessly into your soul. But now? It’s “progressive”.
