PlayStation Says Goodbye to Stars, Xbox Introduces More Flexible Rewards

Sony has officially announced that it will be discontinuing its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, wrapping up the initiative less than three years after its launch.

As of today, new sign-ups are no longer being accepted into the PlayStation Stars program. For existing members, the ability to earn reward points will continue until July 23, 2025, while all points must be redeemed by November 3, 2026. After that date, any unredeemed points will be lost.

Sony also confirmed that once a member cancels their account, they cannot rejoin, and any accumulated points will be permanently deleted.

According to Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise at PlayStation:

“Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to… we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars.”

While the program is ending, Sony suggested that the insights gained from PlayStation Stars may shape future offerings. However, no new or replacement program has been announced as of yet.

If you’re a current PlayStation Stars member, here are a few steps you may want to take:

  • Continue earning points through eligible purchases and activities until the cutoff date in July 2025.
  • Redeem your remaining balance before the final deadline in November 2026.
  • Avoid cancelling your membership if you want to retain your points.

While it’s disappointing to see PlayStation Stars come to an end, this move may be a sign that Sony is rethinking how it rewards and engages with its player community. We’ll keep an eye out for what comes next.
