Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Hits Switch 2 Holiday 2025

SEGA delivers cross-play, deep customization, and physical cartridge support for next-gen kart racing

SEGA has officially announced that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 this holiday 2025, with a full physical cartridge version arriving in early 2026. The title will feature cross-platform online play, over 40 unique vehicles, 70 gadgets, and full support for customization and upgrades.

Building on the legacy of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, CrossWorlds brings back multi-surface racing—on land, water, and in the air—with dynamic tracks that shift mid-race. A newly released trailer showcases the massive range of player personalization options, making every kart a signature ride.

SEGA has also introduced a $10 upgrade path for existing Switch players, allowing save transfer and full feature access on Switch 2. This forward-thinking move eliminates legacy barriers and emphasizes the company’s commitment to a seamless generational leap.

The game’s character roster includes 23 Sonic universe racers at launch, and upcoming DLC promises a crossover-packed future: Hatsune Miku, Persona 5’s Joker, Ichiban Kasuga, Minecraft’s Steve & Alex, and even SpongeBob SquarePants are expected to join.

From a competitive standpoint, SEGA isn’t hiding its ambition. Takashi Iizuka openly compared the game’s online capabilities to Mario Kart World, stating that CrossWorlds will offer true cross-play matchmaking, breaking console walls to connect racers everywhere.

This isn’t just another kart racer—it’s SEGA’s clearest message yet that they’re here to dominate the track. Between its massive content pool, multiplatform infrastructure, and smart physical release strategy, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds feels like the boldest Sonic racing title yet.
