Square Enix May Bring Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Xbox and Switch 2

According to an insider, Square Enix is planning to bring Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to Xbox Series X|S and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026.

The move wouldn’t be all that surprising. Square Enix has been moving away from its old days of PlayStation exclusivity, promising to share its biggest titles across more platforms. In fact, the first game in the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Remake, is already confirmed to arrive on Xbox and Switch 2 this winter—so Rebirth following suit makes perfect sense.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth already hit PC earlier this year, where it performed exceptionally well, even reaching third place in Circana’s U.S. best-selling games chart in January. Critically, the game soared even higher than its predecessor. On Wccftech, reviewer Kai Tatsumoto gave it a rare perfect score, praising its sheer ambition and the way it expands the classic Disc One story into a massive 100-hour epic. Fans have also celebrated its mix of wide-open exploration, heartfelt character moments, and nostalgia-driven callbacks.

Square Enix isn’t stopping there. The studio is already hard at work on the third and final entry in the remake trilogy. Director Tetsuya Nomura recently confirmed that development is “on schedule,” which could point to a 2028 release window if history repeats itself.

For now, Xbox and Nintendo players may just have to wait a little longer—but if this rumor holds true, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is gearing up for a big multiplatform future.
